CHILD FUND INTERNATIONAL

ChildFund International is inspired and driven by the potential that is inherent in all children; the potential not only to survive but to thrive, to become leaders who bring positive change for those around them.  The heart of ChildFund International remains the one-to-one connection made when you sponsor a child. Our work began in 1938 with an effort to support orphanages for the children who had been left without homes or families in the wake of the second Sino-Japanese War.  These orphanages were funded by individuals in America who “sponsored” an orphaned child in China. This approach continues today.

What began as a modest effort to sustain orphanages has evolved into a global force working for children encompassing the globe.  We work in 31 countries, assisting approximately 17.8 million children and their family members in 2012, a significant increase over 2011 thanks to a USAID-funded grant in Senegal, in place until 2016. Our distinctive approach focuses on working with children, regardless of race, creed or gender, throughout their journey from birth to young adulthood, as well as with families, local organizations and communities globally to create the environments children need to thrive.

ATHLETES FOR HOPE

Athletes for Hope is a non-profit organization founded in 2007 by Andre Agassi, Muhammad Ali, Warrick Dunn, Jeff Gordon, Mia Hamm, Tony Hawk, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Mario Lemieux, Alonzo Mourning, and Cal Ripken, Jr. As athletes who share a deep commitment to giving back, our founders joined forces to create an organization that brings athletes together, to educate, inspire, and empower them to channel their energy for a common goal: to make a difference in the world.  Athletes for Hope has grown from its original Founders to over 2,000 athletes across many sports leagues, including the NBA, NFL, NHL, MLB, and the Olympic movement. These athletes take part in our Causeway program which provides education workshops and subsequently one-on-one guidance for each athlete through their personal philanthropic journey.

MISSION:  To educate, encourage and assist athletes in their efforts to contribute to community and charitable causes, to increase public awareness of those efforts, and to inspire others to do the same.
